Ce sont ses yeux :
les iris sont d'or

comme la bague sur mon annulaire,

ni leur histoire ni leurs larmes.
Penser qu'autrefois ils étaient mes satellites !
Ils m'ont exclue maintenant.
Quelles années-lumière !
Elle n'est plus moi,
elle n'est même plus
dans mon ciel
et moi,
je ne suis pas moi-même.
Je ne vais pas défigurer
son joli visage.
Qu'elle porte des empreintes
digitales d'améthyste, un bijou de famille,
une sorte de collier funéraire.
Je connais l'emplacement idéal :
là où le mur projette son ombre,
où germe la laitue,
où le jasmin ne cause pas
de surprise.
C'est là que je la coucherai,
là qu'elle fleurira,
ma seconde nature,
perfection unique
parmi les compromis.
Eavan Boland
Eavan Boland est née en1944. Sa mère, Frances Kelly, est peintre, et son père diplomate. Elle passe une partie de son enfance à Londres (époque à laquelle elle se réfère volontiers pour exprimer son aversion de la culture anglaise moderne) puis le début de son adolescence à New York ; à son retour en Irlande en 1960, on la confie à un couvent de Dublin dont la rigidité la détourne de la foi catholique. Elle fait de brillantes études à Trinity College et épouse le romancier et dramaturge Kevin Casey. Elle publie en 1967 son premier recueil, New Territory, et se voue à l’écriture à partir de 1968.The War Horse (1975) consacre sa réputation de poète, confirmée par In Her Own Image (1980),Night Feed (1982), The Journey (1986). Volontiers narrative, sa poésie se place souvent sous le signe d’une confrontation avec l’étrangeté cruelle du quotidien.
Eavan Boland sera présente au Marché de la Poésie.
